WHERE TO STAY IN SANIBEL CAPTIVA
Beach Travel
This sandy sliver of paradise has innumerable
spots to satisfy the most discriminating sun and sea worshippers.
Sanibel Island's Gulf Boulevard has a wide array of beachfront lodging.
Just step outside of your room and you've
landed on the No. 1 beach in the southeast U.S. Splash in the warm
tranquil ocean, explore the beach for exotic shells, cool down with
a refreshing umbrella libation, and embark on a sunset cruise to
wind down your busy beach day.
If you care to venture beyond your resort's beckoning
sea and sand, try Bowman's Beach, off Sanibel-Captiva Road. It has
metered parking, restrooms, picnic tables, and showers. Causeway
Islands, along Sanibel Causeway (SR 867) toward the mainland, has
free parking lots, restrooms, picnic tables, and showers. Other
beaches on Sanibel Island include Dixie Beach, Lighthouse Beach
Park, Tarpon Bay Road Beach, and Gulfside City Park (AKA as Algiers
Beach). Beaches in Captiva Island include Captiva Beach at the end
of Captiva Drive and Turner Beach at Blind Pass, as you enter the
island on the gulf side. A continuous beach runs along the six miles
of the island's west coast, with several public access points.
